New Data Reveals Trans Identities Are Still Skyrocketing

This week the Society for Evidence-Based Gender Medicine (SEGM) updated a figure showing the number of children and adolescents who were referred to the UK’s Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS) at the Tavistock Centre. It’s a widely-known fact that the number of kids assuming trans identities has spiked over the last decade, but the COVID pandemic saw a reduction in referrals, and the data from 2021 seemed to indicate that the increase had been slowing.

However, it was revealed that the 2022 data from GIDS was incomplete, and a recent press statement indicated that there had been over 1500 referrals that had not been previously accounted for. “Referrals to our Gender Identity Development Service stood at over 3,500. In addition, the referral support service set up by NHS England for GP referrals recorded over 1,500 referrals,” reads the statement. This represents over a doubling of referrals from the 2020-2021 COVID year.
