We are still wrestling with the controversy over trans-identifying male athletes in women’s sports. Just recently, the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) joined other states in requiring students to participate on teams consistent with their sex despite the fact that there are few transgender athletes within their jurisdiction. Remarkably, the day after this was published, several media outlets (eg, National Review) reported that “The international swimming federation FINA announced a new policy… to ban biologically male athletes who have gone through male puberty from competing in women’s competitions.” They are also considering an “Open” division, just as I suggested.
More than 70% of FINA’s members supported the new policy. (What’s up with that other 30%?).
Today we read (Washington Free Beacon) that "Rugby's international governing body on Monday banned transgender athletes."
Common sense may be returning.
